The Sonoline A Handheld Pocket Doppler is of professional grade and can meet routine examination requirements of obstetricians, midwives and pregnant women.

This is a high performance model.  It has audio output, and can connect with earphone or recorder with audio input.  The Sonotrax A has a slim, power saving and interchangeable waterproof 2MHz ultrasound probe.

This model plays the baby's heartbeat via a loud speaker so does not require headphones, this means that you and others can share in the magic of listening to the baby's heart beat at the same time.

This Fetal Doppler will enable you to hear the heartbeat and movements of your unborn baby from the twelfth week of pregnancy. Why should I Use Ultrasound Gel, some sellers say I don't need it?
We always recommend using Ultrasound gel as does your midwife when you go for an appointment.  Applying a layer of ultrasound coupling gel between the Doppler sensor and tummy can ensure a clear signal for detecting the fetal heart beat. Doppler sound waves do not travel easily through the air and so without the use of coupling gel, high interference prevents a clearly audible sound. Our Doppler's come with a 250ml bottle of ultrasound transmission gel. You can order more from us at any time.

How to identify the sounds.
Your baby’s heart beats much more rapidly than your own.  It actually sounds like a rapidly galloping horse.  Her hiccups will sound like two rapid thumps that you will hear intermittently because she does not always have the hiccups. Her kicks will sound like a thud that will get louder as she gets older and stronger.  You will also hear a whooshing sound in the background. This is the sound of the nutrients passing through the placenta to your baby.

The best time to listen to your baby.
The best time to hear your baby is in the evening and a couple of hours after you have eaten. This will give you a chance to digest your food so your own body sounds will not be so loud. This is also usually the time when your baby is most active.

How to find your baby’s heartbeat.
You will be able to judge where your baby is from where she is kicking. Make sure you are in a quiet room, use a generous amount of Ultrasound gel where you are placing the Doppler. Start by placing the Doppler about 2 inches below your belly button and a little to the right. Your baby is very small so move it very slightly as you try to locate her. You will hear her heartbeat best when her back is against your stomach. Don’t be alarmed if you don’t hear her, she may simply have changed positions. As your baby gets older her heartbeat gets stronger and will be easier to find so please have patience.

Other tips
Place the Doppler probe low down on your abdomen - near your bikini line.  Tilt the Doppler probe downwards towards the pubic bone. Move the probe VERY SLOWLY until you pick up the heartbeat.  For best results keep the transducer handle as still as possible to maintain a steady signal.  It is common for the Fetal Doppler to pick up the heartbeat in two different places - do not be alarmed, this is the same heartbeat.
As your pregnancy progresses gradually place the probe higher up on your abdomen
